The community of Oklahoma is mourning the death of Steve Toliver, a beloved former sheriff, law enforcement officer, husband, and friend whose passing has saddened many across Creek County and beyond.

A graduate of Sapulpa High School, Steve dedicated much of his life to public service. He served as a police officer with the Sapulpa Police Department before going on to become sheriff of Creek County, earning a reputation as a respected leader and committed public servant. Those who worked alongside him remember his professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the people he served.

Friends and colleagues have described Steve as one of the finest sheriffs in Creek County’s history. Among those paying tribute was John BJ Hall, who recalled campaigning for Steve during his run for office and later serving alongside him as a police department chaplain. Their shared experiences on patrol and years of friendship reflected the deep respect Steve inspired throughout his career.

Steve was also a devoted family man, having shared more than four decades of marriage since December 14, 1984. As tributes continue to pour in, he is being remembered not only for his accomplishments in law enforcement but also for his character, friendship, and lasting impact on the Sapulpa and Creek County communities. His legacy of service and leadership will not be forgotten.
